  • the Soldier Come Dancing! event website
  • the You Tube SoldierComeDancing Channel
  • personal messages on the Just Giving Donations Pages

 

SECTION A - ENTRY RULES

 

1.     Team Composition

 

1.1   There are three categories of team composition:

 

        • Single Entrant
        • Couple
        • Group

 

1.2   All teams entering the competition must include at least 1 currently serving serviceman or servicewoman.  In the case of single entrants, they must be currently serving.

 

1.3   Teams can be all male, all female, or a combination of male and female entrants.

 

1.4   There are no age restrictions on the team members.

 

1.5   Groups and couples must nominate one person as Team Captain who will act as the main contact point. 

 

1.6   The Team Captain must be 18 years of age or older and must be currently serving.

 

2.     Video Dance Categories

 

2.1   There are three categories of video:

 

    • Modern
    • Latin/Ballroom
    • Showdance

 

2.2   The Modern category includes (but is not limited to):

 

- Abstract Dance     - Break Dancing     - Dancercise      - Disco     - Freestyle    

- Hip Hop     - Jazz Dance     - Interpretive Dance      - Street     - Body Popping    

- Robotics

 

2.3   The Ballroom/Latin category includes (but is not limited to):

 

- Argentine Tango     - Bolero     - Bossa Nova     - Cha Cha     - Charleston    

- Flamenco     - Foxtrot     - Gavotte     - Jitterbug     - Jive     - Lambada     - Lindy Hop     - Merengue     - Paso Doble     - Polka     - Quickstep     - Rumba     - Tango     - Salsa    

- Samba      - Slow Foxtrot     - Slow Waltz     - Swing     - Viennese Waltz 


2.4   The Showdance category includes (but is not limited to):

 

- Barn Dancing     - Ballet Dancing     - Belly Dancing     - Clog Dancing     - Can-Can    

- Country Dancing     - Highland Fling     - Hoedown     - Irish Dancing    

- Mexican Hat Dance     - Morris Dance     - Pas de Deux     - Sword Dancing    

- Tap Dancing     - Folk Dancing

 

2.5   If teams are unsure of what category to enter their video under, they may consult competition organisers.  The organisers have the right to amend the category of video.

 

3.     Eligibility to Enter

 

3.1   All teams entering must include at least 1 serviceman or servicewoman who is based at Catterick Super Garrison.  (Please refer to section 8 below for a definition of which locations are included within the Catterick Super Garrison.)

 

3.2   Serving men and women who are currently deployed or on exercise elsewhere in the world, but who are normally based at Catterick Super Garrison may still enter.

 

4.     Costume

 

4.1   Competitors may wear costumes of any design, or headgear and masks, subject to the restrictions in Section B.

 

4.2   Competitors may wear combat 95 or desert combats, subject to the restrictions in Section B.

 

5.     Video Entries

 

5.1   Videos must be between 3 minutes and 4 minutes in length.

 

5.2   Teams must identify on their entry form the length of the video they are entering.

 

5.3   Videos must include an audio track of music to which the entrants are dancing.

 

5.4   Videos can only be entered into one dance category.

 

5.5   Videos may be entered in a number of formats.  Please refer to the help and guidance page on video and audio file formats for further information (link at the foot of this page). 

 

5.6   Video files must not exceed 1GB in size.

 

6.     Number of Entries Permitted

 

6.1   Servicemen and servicewomen may enter more than once, but their videos must be distinct from each other, and entered into separate dance and team categories.

 

7.     Music Choice

 

7.1   Any music may be chosen, subject to the restrictions identified in Section B.

 

7.2   Teams must provide to the organisers full details of their chosen music, to include: Artist, Track Title and Publisher.

 

8.     Composition of Catterick Super Garrison

 

For the purposes of this competition the Catterick Super Garrison comprises:

Catterick Garrison itself, Marne Barracks, plus camps at Dishforth, Topcliffe, Ripon and RAF Leeming.

 

8.     Privacy Policy

 

Please see our Privacy Policy for full details of our policy regarding accessing the Soldier Come Dancing! website and entering the competition.  A copy of the Privacy Policy will be provided upon request, and will be available to view at the Event Website for the duration of the competition.

 

We guarantee that we will not disclose any personal information to the public via any of the websites utilised for the competition that identifies your surname, rank, service number, Regiment or Unit, or any specific details of your location, other than to state that you are a serving member of the Armed Forces currently based at Catterick Super Garrison. 

 

9.     Clarification and Revisions

 

SSAFA Forces Help In-Service Committee Catterick Garrison and the competition organisers may, from time to time, clarify and revise these rules.  All entries received up till that point will be reviewed in the light of such changes or revisions, and, should they fail to meet the new requirements, the entrants will be notified and will be given the opportunity to enter a replacement video, or replacement written text, whichever is appropriate.

 

 

SECTION B - RESTRICTIONS

 

  • Mention must be kept to a minimum regarding specific Units, Regiments or their locations. 
  • No mention must be made of any details of current or future operations or exercises.
  • No mention must be made of the participants’ surnames or rank.
  • No offensive or indecent nicknames or team names will be allowed.
  • No full nudity or indecent exposure will be allowed.
  • No uniform can be worn which displays either emblems or badges, or any marking or symbol which allows the wearers’ Unit, Regiment, rank or specific location to be identified.
  • No action, movement or gestures will be allowed that would be considered indecent or offensive, or that could be interpreted as bringing the Armed Forces into disrepute.
  • No accompanying music/lyrics will be allowed which includes offensive language or swearwords, or encompasses themes/subjects that could be deemed to be offensive or indecent.

 

The SSAFA Forces Help In-Service Committee Catterick Garrison and the competition organisers reserve the right to refuse entry to any video deemed to contravene any of the above restrictions.

 

 

SECTION C - SUPPLEMENTARY RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

The Soldier Come Dancing! competition is also subject to further Supplementary Rules and Regulations governing the execution of the contest, eligibility and rules regarding video viewings, votes and donations, general conduct, and other administrative matters.
