Miss World rolls out the red carpet for Soldier Come Dancing!

The Miss World Organisation, under the direct control of Mrs Julia Morley, rolled out the red carpet and welcomed Soldier Come Dancing! to their Gala Charity Dinner at The Grosvenor House on Park Lane in London last Monday evening.

The charity dinner, which was held to raise money for the Variety International Children's Fund, was attended by all the Miss World 2009 contestants plus a host of celebrities, businessmen and dignitaries from many participating nations.

During her welcome address Julia Morley specifically welcomed SSAFA Forces Help and our Soldier Come Dancing! team members and organisers - inviting them to stand and be applauded by the other guests.

Our team members and organisers got to meet many of the Miss World contestants including Miss England, Lance Corporal Katrina Hodge. Miss Hodge, 22, who was awarded a commendation from her unit, the 1st Batallion, Royal Anglian Regiment, for her actions during a posting in 2005 in Basra, has been given leave from her duties as a soldier to appear in the Miss World final.

Katrina has also promised to come and visit Catterick Garrison in the future - see keep watching this space for more news on that!

Part of the event also included a raffle - and in keeping with the spirit of the event our Soldier Come Dancing! group bought raffle tickets - and incredibly we won three fabulous prizes which had been donated by Miss Italy, Miss Turkey and Miss Slovenia.

We have decided that to raise more funds for Soldier Come Dancing! and SSAFA Forces Help we will auction these prizes on Ebay.  See the article above for more details!

The evening also included some wonderful entertainment including an appearance by Ray Quinn and other leading starts from the cast of the West End show Grease, who closed the evening with a selection of songs from the one of the most popular shows currently gracing the stage. All our Soldier Come Dancing! contestants and organisers, and of course the other guests and Miss World contestants, had a truly memorable evening and helped to raise an amazing total of $450,000 for the Variety International Children’s fund.

Strictly

       meets

                SOLDIER!

What an event!  42 soldiers from the Soldier Come Dancing! competition teams travelled to London this week to meet the celebrities and professional dancers from the BBC Strictly Come Dancing series.

Spending the morning moving and grooving with the celebs and their partners, our teams were treated to a Masterclass in jive courtesy of Ian Waite, who really got our teams motivated.  They also got to see a sneak preview of the group dance which the celebs and their partners will be performing on Satuday Night's live show from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom!

Filming to produce a video clip about Soldier Come Dancing! which will be featured during the live show on Saturday, the celebs, professional dancers and our soldiers alike all had a wonderful time - and plenty of autographs were given too.

The SCD! organisers would like to thank all the celebrities and dancers, and the BBC production team, for such a wonderful day - and we look forward to seeing the results on TV!

Watch the live Strictly Come Dancing show on BBC1, Saturday November 7 at 6.25pm!

THESun just keeps on

shining!

Once again Soldier Come Dancing! has made headlines with The Sun - not only in their online version, but also in their printed copy.

Telling the story of how Soldier Come Dancing! met Strictly Come Dancing, the article quotes many of the celebrities who are appearing on this year's Strictly.  The professional dancers and  celebrities met up with members of our teams for a dance masterclass in Hyde Park Barracks in London.   Great fun was had by all!

Woman's Own takes SCD! to their heart...

Woman's Own magazine have featured news about the Soldier Come Dancing! competition in their latest issue of 9 November 2009.  We were contacted by the magazine when they heard of the buzz and excitement that our competition has generated.

Featured on the same page which tells the story of brave Craig Wood, one of the youngest soldiers to have been injured in Afghanistan, it highlights exactly why we are running this competition - to raise sufficient funds to allow SSAFA to help and support soldiers and families who, like Craig's family, have paid such a high price whilst serving in the Armed Forces.

Also featured is news of a new musical sensation - a group called The Soldiers - who are releasing an album to raise funds for forces charities.

Ooops!  Sorry, we have had a bit of a problem with our voting software!

Our software guru has spotted that some of you may have had some problems casting your votes for the Soldier Come Dancing! videos.  This bug only affected people using Internet Explorer versions 6, 7 & 8 - and has now been fixed.

If anyone has previously been unsuccessful casting their vote (or thinks they might have been, but are not sure), please go back now to your favourite videos and try again.  We reckon it should work properly now!

This bug has not affected either the viewing or the ratings for any video, and the donations links are also unaffected.

Please do report any other problems you may encounter to support@soldiercomedancing.co.uk and we will deal with it as quickly as we can.

An announcement from the SCD! Organisers..

The Soldier Come Dancing! Competition organisers have received a late video entry from Team 11 - The Jackson 7.  It has been decided that since Team 11 have obviously put a lot of effort into producing the video it will still be uploaded to the You Tube website, and can be accessed from our PICK YOUR WINNERS page.  That uploading is now complete and the public can go and appreciate this team's routine.

In fairness to the other teams participating in the competition, it has been decided that this team's entry will not now be eligible to win any prizes since it was submitted after the closing deadline, and additionally is longer than the permitted length.

However, their friends, family and the general public can still vote for the video, view it and rate it.  If they wish they may also make donations in support of it.  However, this will be on a voluntary and fun basis only as this Team's results will not be included when the prize winners are determined.

7 October 2009

Soldier Come Dancing! is open...

Well, the great day has arrived - the videos are loaded, the soldiers have done their bit - and now it's up to you, the public, to show your support for their efforts.  We hope you enjoy the results as much as we have enjoyed creating these masterpieces!!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

Due to the incredibly busy schedules of our serving soldiers, and in order to allow as many as possible to take part in the Soldier Come Dancing! competition, the latest date for submission of video entries has now been moved to Monday, 5 October 2009.

This will give teams more time to complete their entries and get them submitted.  As a result the YouTube competition channel, and our voting and donations pages will now open to the public on 7th October 2009.

Any teams still wishing to enter can therefore still get Entrant's Packs by emailing us at entries@soldiercomedancing.co.uk
